The Gettysburg College baseball team will hold a season-long fundraiser as a project to raise money for ALS research.
Organized by junior third baseman Nate Simon, the Bullets have dubbed the project “Take ALS Yard.”
Specifically, the Bullets are raising ALS support for Tommy Kirchhoff, son of Bill ’63 and Jean Kirchhoff ’64. The Kirchhoff family has been a generous supporter of the baseball team, and Gettysburg’s home field is named in their honor.
Gettysburg fans will have the opportunity to support the initiative throughout the season at select home baseball games. The Bullets will take donations and sell “Take ALS Yard” hats, with all proceeds going to ALS research. The team will also hold an “ALS Day” during the team’s twinbill with Haverford College on April 27.
“The Kirchhoffs have been steadfast in supporting the school and the team,” noted Simon. “The ‘Take ALS Yard’ fundraiser is simply a gesture to reciprocate that support. We want Tommy to know that he is far from alone in this battle, and he will always have support at Gettysburg.”
