Paying Tribute: Bob Borman

Robert “Bob” Borman, father of Rob Borman ’05, passed away on October 30, 2014, after a year-long battle with ALS. This loss strikes close to home for the Gettysburg College Baseball community. The Borman family—especially in the years’ following Rob’s graduation—have been generous supporters of the baseball team at Gettysburg, and are recognized for their support with a plaque outside the visitor’s bullpen at Kirchhoff Field. We reiterate our appreciation to the Borman family and our commitment to raising money in order to fund research for this deadly disease.

The current team never got to know Bob very well, but we understand that he served in Korea at the DMZ for 3 years, graduated from SUNY Oswego and City College of NY, and then returned to his alma mater, Horace Greeley High School, where he taught Industrial Arts for 35 years and served as the assistant principal for three. That attitude of service, accountability and leadership was instilled in Rob, who was a senior captain and significant component of the 2005 team that finished 11-7 in the Centennial Conference and clinched a CC playoff berth. To that, Chase Straub ’07 describes Rob as being “the best teammate you could ask for.” Rob’s wife, Megan Murphy Borman ‘03, was selected into the Gettysburg Hall of Athletic Honor last September and gave birth to their first child, Henry Robert, last April.

Please keep the Borman family in mind during this holiday season.

The silvery moonlight mantles

The worn walls of chapel anew,

The wind in the trees sweetly echoes

Our praises of Orange and Blue.
