On behalf of the Gettysburg College Baseball Team and Take ALS Yard, I would like to formally announce the end of our 2018 – 2019 school year fundraising campaign. We had an excellent year highlighted by the 3rd annual Take ALS Yard Home Run Derby in the Fall and of course our Take ALS Yard Day in the Spring. In total, this year we were able to raise $7,500 bringing our total to over $70,000 which makes us well on our way to our $100,000 goal. The support from the team and the entire Gettysburg Baseball community especially from the Kirchhoff family was incredible this year and it enabled us to take Take ALS Yard to new heights.
Although we had a disappointing season on the field, a few members of the team achieved some personal milestones this season and broke school records. Senior Sam Dobbins was named to the CC All Sportsmanship Team, Senior Will Wortmann broke the school record for most appearances by a pitcher, Junior Joe Giovinco reached 100 hits for his career, Sophomore Sean Murphy extended his streak of reaching base safely to 42 games (and counting) which is a school record, and Freshman Mark Seibert broke the school record for most hit-by-pitches in a single season with 19. Last but not least, Coach Campo achieved his 600th win this year. His dedication throughout the years to Gettysburg Baseball has been incredible and achieving 600 wins is a testament to his great coaching career. Without Coach Campo, Gettysburg Baseball and Take ALS Yard would not be the great programs they are today.
Take ALS Yard Day was another great day this year started off by our walk-off win against Ursinus College. We were able to hear from Coach Campo, Take ALS Yard Coordinator Brendan Wright ’19, Bill and Jean Kirchhoff and the rest of the Kirchhoff family, and Vanessa Bornholdt, the Director of Marketing and Development at Project ALS. Without the incredible support from these people and from the rest of the team and Gettysburg Baseball Community, this great day would not be possible. Below are some pictures from Take ALS Yard Day.
Overall, the 2018-2019 school year was an outstanding fundraising year for Take ALS Yard and we couldn’t be more excited about the initiative moving forward. Although this fundraising school year is over, now marks the beginning of the 2019-2020 fundraising year! Hats and shirts are still available for purchase through Coach Campo or you can make a donation on our fundraising page here. Once again, thank you to everyone for a great year, Go Bullets, and let’s Take ALS Yard!
