Hello Gettysburg Baseball community! It is my pleasure to introduce Dan Ball and myself, Erik Wortmann, as this year’s Take ALS Yard co-coordinators. The two of us, along with the rest of the senior class, are honored to be leading the team’s effort for such a deserving cause. The team is working extremely hard under the current circumstances to get the chance to compete for a championship this spring.
With the great deal of adversity faced both on and off the field this past year, the team wanted to make sure we remain focused in our goals to aid ALS research and awareness. About this time each year, the Gettysburg College Baseball Team sponsors and hosts a fundraiser for all college students that includes activities such as a Home-Run Derby and 3-on-3 Basketball tournament. There is always a phenomenal turn out by our fellow students in support of our fundraising goals. Our inability to continue this tradition is not only unfortunate for our philanthropic efforts, but strips the team of valuable time together in which we can introduce a cause that we hold close to our hearts as a community.

As we try to look forward during these tough times, our efforts as a team do not cease. We are very proud to announce having raised $70,000 to date, bringing us closer to our ultimate goal of $100,000 for Project ALS. We are currently focusing our efforts to our online donations, and hope to be together again soon to collectively work for this cause. In addition, we hope to organize virtual fundraisers to keep both the Gettysburg College students and the baseball team involved with our efforts to ‘Take ALS Yard’.

This spring we are hoping to welcome our community back to Kirchhoff Field for some Gettysburg Baseball, and another amazing ‘Take ALS Yard Day.’ Hopefully, it will provide us with another opportunity to raise money and awareness for ALS research in honor of Tommy Kirchhoff and Robert Borman for the Kirchhoff and Borman families.
To learn more about Project ALS and to donate to their efforts please visit Our Donation Page. With your continued support we can work together to “Take ALS Yard”.
Although the future of the season remains unclear, we will not stop working as hard as we can to build upon the foundation left by last year’s Senior Class. Lastly, we would like to thank Coach Campo, Coach Perry and the entire Gettysburg Baseball Community for the never-ending support they have showed this cause throughout the years.
