2020-2021 ‘Take ALS Yard’ Wrap-Up

To Bullet Baseball Alumni and Friends,

As our efforts have concluded for the 2020-2021 season, there is much to celebrate about the past year.  There were so many great team moments throughout the season, and the team looks forward to building towards a Championship season next year!  Additionally, despite an abnormal season, our fund-raising efforts made us successfully surpass the $100,000 goal for the team, and currently stands over $110,000!  We want to thank the entire community of Alumni, Families and Friends of the program for such amazing dedication to this cause.  Also, a very big ‘Thank You’ to Project ALS for their continued support in our work.  We, as Co-coordinators, could not be more thrilled to finally cross this finish-line, and we are excited to pass the baton down to the next team who will continue to support ‘Take ALS Yard’!

Today is a landmark day in the MLB’s support for fighting against ALS; June 2nd, 2021, is the first annual ‘Lou Gehrig Day’ in aid of ALS research and awareness.  The inception of this day includes participation by the ALS community in the ceremonial first pitch, the National Anthem and more.  Additionally, the MLB will support various organizations regarding the fight with ALS.  This day is historic in the baseball world, and more importantly, for the fight against ALS.

As our last update of the season, the team would like to give one final ‘Thank You’ to everyone for their support of this cause, and to our team this season.  It has been a pleasure working as Co-coordinators and supporting the ‘Take ALS Yard’ cause.

Finally, we would like to share a letter from The Project ALS team detailing more information regarding the research.

Once again, thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts, for an incredible year!

Daniel Ball and Erik Wortmann

To the Gettysburg Baseball Community:

Thank you! Over the past nine years, you’ve helped raise over $100,000 for Project ALS research in memory of Tom Kirchhoff and Robert Borman. Coach Campo, your dedication to this campaign and this community is incredible. You and this year’s campaign coordinators Dan Ball and Erik Wortmann really hit it out of the park!

We are so grateful for everyone’s generosity, especially that of Jean and Bill Kirchoff whose matching challenge helped push fundraising over the edge. The Kirchhoff family’s commitment to Project ALS and our mission is exceptional. We are so grateful for your support and for the support of the Borman family.

To all those who have supported the Take ALS Yard campaign this year and in years prior, your contributions have fueled cutting-edge research programs, including drug discovery efforts at the Project ALS Therapeutics Core at Columbia (THE CORE). It is with the help of people like you and communities like Gettysburg Baseball that we will find treatments and a cure for ALS.

Go Bullets!

Sincerely,

The Project ALS team
