Take ALS Yard 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

On Sunday, December 5th we hosted the second-ever Take ALS Yard 3-on-3 basketball tournament. This event was an enormous success thanks to all the students who participated and volunteered their time. The Gettysburg Softball Team was crucial in this event’s success as they helped us to promote the tournament and monitored the many games that were played.  There were a total of 67 participants split up into 20 different teams. Our efforts allowed us to raise $650 for Project ALS! We would like to thank our teammates for both advertising and participating in the tournament. We would like to also thank Corey Jewart for publicizing the event on the Gettysburg Athletics page, and Coach Campo for helping us organize the event. Without their help, this fundraiser would not have had such great success.

Team “Jake Frisco” takes on team “T-Rex’s”

The tournament consisted of single-elimination, first to 15-point games with a 20-minute time limit. Teams could register up to 4 players to substitute one when needed. We determined the initial matchups and the structure of the bracket through a random bracket generator. Points were scored in 1s and 2s and the games were monitored by both baseball and softball players who volunteered their time. We played 4 games at once, and thanks to all the help the tournament ran very smoothly.

Team “Randy’s Bad Boys” takes on team “Frisky Business” in the championship game

This Sunday afternoon we witnessed some great basketball, spirited competition, and fantastic sportsmanship from our teams.  In the quarter-final matchups, it was team “Randy’s Bad Boys” who hit a buzzer-beater and, in another game, team “Frisky Business” who won 15-0.  Ultimately these two teams met in the championship game which resulted in a nail-biting 15-14 victory in “Randy’s Bad Boys” favor.  We would like to congratulate these three men on their victory. They received a $25 gift card to Blue & Gray, Bar & Grill which was graciously donated.  They also received a total of $50 in visa gift cards.

In other news, we have just placed an order of t-shirts and hats that should arrive in time to start selling by the start of the spring semester. This event, our merchandise sales, and all donations will help us reach our $10,000 goal so please visit our donation page to help us as we continue to raise money for ALS research in honor of Robert Borman and Tommy Kirchhoff of the Borman and Kirchhoff families.  With your support, we can “Take ALS Yard”.
